Pabst. BLUE RIBBON →
I can’t ever see anything about Pabst without thinking of Blue Velvet. That’s one angle this story didn’t really touch on, and seriously hipsters and David Lynch go together like beer and ice fishing.

My economics reading - with an eye towards wealth...
I’m reading some Galbraith the elder (who popularized the term conventional wisdom) and some chicago school guy (richard clarke I think). I’ll summarize when I get farther into them.

population with regards to wealth
Lately i’ve been thinking a lot about population with regards to wealth. Not sure how it fits into the framework that I’ve been mulling over. I’m holding off reading anything about wealth until I’ve had some time continue to think about it.
However, I am compiling a reading list for when that time comes:
Marx’s Das Capital
Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations

Vegan Knock Knock Jock
I was inspired by all the vegan posting from the stalwart and decided to post my favorite vegan joke (full disclosure, I am vegan)

Wealth and economics revisted
Still been thinking often about wealth and economics. Today I was thinking about the effect of inefficiencies on the economy versus wealth. It would seem that the macro effects of a crappy car (one that needs a lot of extra work done to keep it running) increases the GDP for an economy because it creates more jobs to keep the crappy car running. This would seem to ignore the time and money that...

ER visits and health care costs rise in... →
The below ignores new sources of supply like nurse practicioners; many have begun to offer services at places like walgreens. Cost transparency is a good thing doctors.

If Obama mandates health insurance across America, healthcare costs will increase more than they already are.
It’s as simple as that. It’s a handout to the insurance industry and, of course,...

The Point of Society?
I’ve been thinking about modern society and what should be the point of it. This stemmed from thinking about what wealth is. So I’m going to write about it here.
(I realize this has been done before, but I find it useful to think out loud and explore internally a bit before seeing that the wheel has already been invented)
Broadly society should be about increasing wealth which...
D.C.
I was in DC for awhile before coming back for the end of SXSW. My opinion of the place (DC) improved this trip, I’m not crazy about it but I feel like it could be a tolerable place to live. The U Street area seems like it might have potential, it’s also very easy to get anywhere… I’m open to the idea of living there someday.
Austin is still the king. SXSW has gotten...

Plan to reduce U.S.A annual deficit by 2/3rds
I really like the announced plan to reduce the deficit and the plan to have more openess in budgeting by not hiding costs and making the budget more transparent. This is a step in the right direction to be sure (though we’ll see if it all works out).
That being said, having a long term fiscal plan is a marked step up from the previous administration.
“….deficit’s...

what do people around here think of Obama continuing Bush’s policies with respect to detainees?
I for one am disappointed with many of Obama’s decisions thus far. I don’t think I’m who he’s trying to please.
